OUR MISSION
Our mission is to increase and enhance the self-esteem, self-confidence and self-perception of young African American women in the Sacramento community, while encouraging and supporting, both psychologically and financially, their pursuit of education and achievement.
MENTORING

Each participant is assigned an adult female Mentor for the duration of our program. These adult volunteers — Mentoring Black Sisters—form personal relationships with our young ladies and advise and support them through the entire program. Most of our volunteer mentors are past participants of Miss Black Sacramento/Mentoring Black Sisters themselves, additional evidence of the value of the experience. And all are outstanding community members. Many of these mentoring partnerships continue long past the program.

THE PROGRAM
Beginning in 1970, Mentoring Black Sisters, Inc. (incorporated in 2000 — initially operating via the Miss Black Sacramento Scholarship Pageant) has promoted the personal and academic development of young (ages 13 - 27) African American women in the Sacramento community. We are a source of training in self-confidence and poise, self-presentation and public speaking skills, and social and professional skills. We are an organization that, with the support of the Sacramento community, returns to the community confident, achievement focused and service minded young women.
The Annual Miss Black Sacramento Scholarship Pageant is the culminating event of the Mentoring Black Sisters program. Each participant is presented and celebrated before an enthusiastic audience of nearly 500 family members, friends, teachers, co-workers, other young people and members of the general Sacramento community. Although our celebration concludes with the crowning of queens and princesses, we are NOT a beauty pageant, all of our young women are undeniably beautiful, each in her own way, and it is our goal to help each young lady see and appreciate that fact!
